After the WWG’s I Hate Chardonnay, Right? tasting, it’s time to pick a winner. Which one should you invite over for the weekend? Drum roll please…One obvious favorite bottle emerged amongst the group during the tasting, and that bottle is the WWG’s Wine of the Week. On a stifling hot day, we were particularly attracted to Cono Sur’s 2010 Sauvignon Blanc. This wine exhibited bright citrus flavors with a silky smooth finish. The WWG loved it and loved the price just as much! I paid $11.99 for the bottle at a local retail shop, and you can buy it here at www.winebuys.com for a similar price. This bottle was my local retailer’s ‘go to’ Sauvignon Blanc, and it is really tasting great right now. So put it on ice and get to know this fun summer white!
Cono Sur recommends the wine on its own as an aperitif or with a variety of appetizer dishes, including mild cheeses, artichoke dip, and seafood. Given its lime undertones, the WWG recommends pairing it with your favorite seafood ceviche.
If you don’t have a favorite ceviche recipe yet, give this one a try:
1/2 lb. shrimp (can substitute red snapper or lobster or crab).
Fresh lime juice (enough to soak the shrimp plus 1 cup for the sauce)
4 tomatoes, seeds removed and diced
1/2 red onion, diced
1/2 seedless cucumber, diced
1 serrano chile pepper, diced (remove seeds and ribs for less heat)
Soak the shrimp in lime juice overnight. After soaking overnight, drain the lime juice from the shrimp. Meanwhile, prepare the other ingredients. Combine tomatoes, red onion, cucumber, serrano pepper, several dashes of hot sauce, 1 cup of lime juice, and shrimp. Salt to taste, and enjoy!
